All You Need to Know About the Reverse Advent Calendar 2018

Updated: Oct 8, 2018

Great news friends and supporters. We have just launched the 2018 Foodbank Lifeline Reverse Advent Calendar initiative in Malta. This will be the second instalment of the Reverse Advent Calendar after last year’s hugely successful campaign.

The Reverse Advent Calendar is a simple way for individuals, families, schools and companies to get involved and help make a difference in the lives of those who are struggling at this special time of year.

We all know what an Advent Calendar is. Usually in form of a carboard sheet with sweets or treats tucked away behind each day in December. The Reverse Advent Calendar follows the same logic but in reverse.

How it works.

Instead of opening a piece of chocolate or a sweet every day, all you have to do is simply donate one non-perishable food item such as canned food, cereal or biscuits into a box for 24 days starting from December 1st.

We have specially prepared food shopping list ideas which we invite you to have a look at. The reason for specific shopping lists is that sometimes we are over stocked on some items (from corporate donations) but we are low on others.

After 24 days, you will have helped contribute towards a 7-day food pack ready to feed people who are in desperate need of your help.

We are trying to organise specially branded boxes for your use – please follow this post or our facebook page for updates on this. When your pack/box is ready you can drop it off directly at our main centre in Valletta. Please do double check our opening hours.

Alternatively you can drop off the food at one of the Quicklets or Zanzi Home branches.

We also offer the option to send monetary donations directly through Paypal or bank transfer.

If you are a school or a company that would like to get involved please do contact us. We have posters and fliers, as well as branded boxes ready and we can also organise collection from your offices.

We can’t wait to kick this initiative off and we hope to find the same generosity as last year, so we can continue our important work helping those of us who are undergoing great strain to be able to find food.

If you’d like to understand how much food we distribute every week, have a look at these figures. Sadly the number of people who need our help has increased year on year since we launched in the summer of 2015.

Please get in touch with us if you have any questions.

You CAN make a difference this Christmas. Spare a thought and bring a smile to people who, without your help, would not be anywhere close to feeling the Christmas cheer we all treasure so much.

We’d also like to thank our main sponsors in this campaign: Izola Bank, Quicklets and Zanzi Homes as well as XFM100.2's Oz and Jay for their help and support in making this all come together.
