In November 2017, Rev. Kim Hurst, the Chairperson of the Foodbank Lifeline Foundation Malta, was invited to XFM’s Big Breakfast Show with Oz and Jay.
She discussed several issues revolving around poverty and the lack of awareness surrounding it with Oz and Jay who pledged their own support towards the Reverse Advent Calendar initiative.
The Reverse Advent Calendar was launched in a big way in 2017. The concept is simple. Members of the public are invited to place one non-perishable food item in a box every day from the 1st to the 24th December. The items would then make up a food pack ready to last a family who are in desperate need for 7 days.
Rev. Kim Hurst thoroughly enjoyed the experience and looks forward to going back on air with Oz and Jay soon.

What a great listen! Hearing Rev Kim Hurst share stories about community outreach and Foodbank Lifeline’s mission made me realize how much energy and heart goes into supporting people every day it’s genuinely inspiring. It even made me chuckle thinking of a week I was so swamped with school that I said, I need someone to take my online course just so I’d have a quiet morning to enjoy conversations like this.
It’s really heartwarming to read about Rev. Kim Hurst and the Reverse Advent Calendar simple actions like placing a single item in a box can make a huge difference for families in need. It reminded me of the time I was juggling community service and finals, feeling completely stretched between responsibilities. In the middle of that chaos, I even thought about someone who could take my online Accounting exam, which really shows how balancing commitments can push anyone to look for a little extra help.
This was a nice reminder of how powerful simple ideas can be when people actually talk about them in public spaces like morning radio. The way Rev. Kim Hurst explained the Reverse Advent Calendar made poverty feel less abstract and more actionable, which really stuck with me. It also mirrors themes I see in Economics Assignment Help discussions, where awareness, resource distribution, and community involvement connect theory to everyday realities families are facing.
